A kompensator is a patented specialty fifth wheel mounting system designed for use with torsionally rigid trailers such as tankers, drybulk, bottom dumps, grain, and B trains. This fifth wheel is designed to provide both front-to-rear and controlled side-to-side oscillation between the tractor and semi-trailer.
The Kompensator® fifth wheel relieves the twisting force between the tractor and trailer. It is intended for applications where the center of gravity of the loaded semi-trailer does not exceed 1 meter above the top surface of the fifth wheel.
Benefits of a HOLLAND Kompensator Mount include improved tire life and a reduction in tractor, trailer, and tank cracks.
The Problem:
When torsionally rigid trailers encounter uneven terrain they do not flex to relieve the twisting force between the tractor and trailer which places great strain on tractor and trailer frames which can lead to cracks in the frame and premature tire wear.
The Situation: Uneven/Rough Terrain without Kompensator
· High frame stresses occur
· The Center of Gravity Shifts Off the Vehicle Center
The Solution: The HOLLAND Kompensator Mount
The HOLLAND Kompensator Mount provides the torsional stress relief that rigid trailers and tankers require. The unique cradle design provides side-to-side compensation and allows more flexibility between tractor and trailer by reducing torque and twist transfer through the fifth wheel.
The Situation: Uneven/Rough Terrain WITH Kompensator
· The center of gravity remains stable at the vehicle Center
· and less Frame stress occurs
Advantages of the HOLLAND Kompensator Mount
· Reduction of load on vehicle frame due to torsional forces.
· Particularly advantageous for rigid semitrailers, such as tanker trailers
· Increased relative lateral movement between tractor and semitrailer
· Hole pattern in accordance with ISO 3842
